12 Days Rwenzori & Gorillas Trek starts at the Entebbe International Airport where you leave from to the South West of Uganda at Bwindi Impenetrable National Park to watch the Mountain Gorillas then Mountain Rwenzori National Park where you climb the majestic Mountain Rwenzori.

Detailed Itinerary of the 12 Days Rwenzori & Gorillas Trek

Day 1: Arrival then transfer to hotel

On arrival at the Entebbe Airport, you shall be welcomed by a driver guide who shall take you through precise briefing on the 12 Days Rwenzori & Gorillas Trek. After the briefing session, the driver guide shall transfer you to your hotel for relaxation, Dinner and Overnight. Laico Victoria Hotel.

Day 2: Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park

Early morning breakfast then transfer to the South Western Part of Uganda at Bwindi impenetrable forest national park. En-route, you shall views the green terrain vegetation, bird species as well as lunch. The journey takes you a period of 7 to 8 hours with a brief stop at the equator where you pose for many photos to keep for memories. After a while, you shall reach the Park and continue to check-in lodge for Dinner and Overnight. Buhoma Lodge.

Day 3: Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi Forest

Early morning breakfast then transfer to the thick forest vegetation to trek the rare species of Mountain Gorillas in their natural habitat. You shall transfer to the park headquarters where you are welcomed by a driver guide who informs you about the Gorillas then he shall locate you into groups of 8 with lead rangers. You shall transfer to the forest to trek the Gorillas for a period of 3 to 5 hours watching birds, primates then later you shall meet the Gorillas and in an hour you shall stay in their presence taking many photos to keep. After trekking the Gorillas, you shall return to the park headquarters to pick your Gorilla Trekking Certificate to take with you back home. You shall later transfer back to the lodge for relaxation, Dinner and Overnight. Buhoma Lodge.

Day 4: Transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park

Wake up in the morning then transfer to the stunning queen Elizabeth National Park via the Ishasha sector for a period of 5 to 6 hours and is you lucky , you shall watch the tree climbing lions. En-route, you shall watch the Rwenzori Mountains at a distance, have lunch then you shall reach the Park and embark on a Game Drive watching wildlife animals like Elephants, hippos, crocodiles, buffaloes etc as they wander around their natural habitat. After the Game Drive, you shall proceed to check-in lodge for Dinner and Overnight. Bush Lodge.

Day 5: Game Drive & Boat Cruise at Kazinga Channel

Wake up have breakfast then transfer to the Park to enjoy a Game Drive as you traverse from one track to another watching many wildlife animals wander around their natural vegetation habitat. You shall watch wildlife animals like Elephants, hippos, crocodiles, buffaloes etc. You shall then break off for lunch break then later proceed to the Kazinga Channel to enjoy a Boat Cruise which takes a period of 3 hours. You shall watch many wildlife animals along the shores breaking their thirst, crocodiles and hippos beneath the waters then after the cruise, you shall return back to the shores then lodge for Dinner and Overnight. Day 6: Transfer to Nyakalengija → Nyabitaba Hut (2,650m)

Breakfast then transfer to Nyakalengija located at the base of Mountain Rwenzori. The journey takes you a period of 3 hours watching the villages, farmlands, tropical rainforest, steep ridges. After a while, you reach the base where you are briefed on the conduct as you climb the majestic Mountain Rwenzori. You shall be located into groups with lead ranger guides and start a hike from Nyakalengija through the Bakonzo settlements via the central circuit trail trek through the thick tropical forest with high elephant grass and dense bushes.

This forest inhabits many animal species i.e forest elephant, chimpanzee, hyrax, black-and-white colobus, L’Hoest’s monkeys, duiker, three horned chameleon. You shall watch birds like the Francolin, Rwenzori Turaco, Long-eared Owl, Barred Long-tailed Cuckoo, Cinnamon-chested Bee-eater, Strange Weaver, Archers’ Robin-chat, Rwenzori Batis. You shall proceed on trek till you reach the Nyabitaba Hut for Dinner and Overnight.

Day 7: Nyabitaba → John Matte Hut (3,350m)

Breakfast at the hut then transfer through thick shrubs and forest for about 30 minutes until you reach the Kurt Shafer bright at the confluence of the Mubuku and Bujuku rivers. Proceed though the bamboo montane forests and slippery moss covered rocks for a couple of hours watching many bird species that live in the forest.

You will continue to move up to Nyamulejju rock shelter where the first hikers used to at times camp and also spend the night. You shall have a stopover for lunch and here, you shall have views of the mount Stanley and mount Speke if the weather is clear. Continue to hike through the alpine forest to John Matte hut where you will have dinner and spend the night. The hut is close to river Bujuku and most hikers usually take bathes here, the water is so cold but so refreshing as well. You will also have views of Margherita glacier which is on mount Stanley between Alexandra and Margherita peaks. You shall then reach the John Matte hut for Dinner and Overnight.

Day 8: John Matte → Bujuku Hut (3,900m)

Enjoy breakfast at the hut then transfer to cross river Bujuku through the forest till you reach the lower bigo bog a swampy area in a valley full of giant lobelias. This area used to be hardest part of the Rwenzori to navigate since the area is so boggy making it challenging to transfer from one tussock to another.

There is a walk board up to the end of the boggy area which makes the walk quite challenging for trekkers as they get to watch the giant lobelias, everlasting flowers and groundsels. You will take a steep hike along a ridge which will lead you to the start of the upper bigo bog. You shall follow it till you reach Lake Bujuku and Bujuku Hut where you view mount Speke, Mount Baker and mount Stanley. Dinner and Overnight at Bujuku Hut.

Day 9: Bujuku → Kitandara Hut (4,023m)

Have breakfast at Bujuku hut then continue with the hike to Elena hut, which is 5-7 hours hike. You will move through the sides of the upper Bigo bog. You will then hike through the steep slopes the steep slopes of Lake Bujuku. Elena hut is at the rocky part of Mount Stanley and the area is too cold. At this point, you are at the highest mountain of the Rwenzori and you will have a direct view of Mount Baker and Mount Speke.

Sometimes it is hard to view these two mountains because they are covered by fog. Have dinner at Elena hut then spend the night. This day you will have to wake up as early as 2am, Have breakfast at Elena hut then hike to the top of mount Stanley, Magherita peak, through the Stanley plateau and Magherita Glaciers. The guide will teach you how to use the equipment while on the ice. At the top you will have a view of Irene Lake, mount Speke and the surrounding environment.

Then descend to Elena Hut for Lunch and later proceed to descend to Kitandara through the Scott Elliot pass to Kitandara, it is the most beautiful point of the Rwenzori. Have dinner at Kitandara then spend the night. If the group is big, you might spend another night at Elena hut and continue the following day.

Day 10: Kitandara hut (3979m) – Guy Yeoman hut (3505m)

Early alpine start (around 2–3 AM)

Breakfast at Kitandara then move through the base of Mount Baker, which can be slippery so you will need to be so careful. From Kitandara, the trail ascends steeply up the headwall, spreading out from the base of Mount Baker and continuing along the south side of the Rwenzori Mountain to Fresh field pass. From the pass, the long muddy descent continues, passing the rock shelter at Bujangolo,

The base camp for the historic expedition by the Duke of Abruzzi in 1906. This will take you around 4-6 hours then reach Guy Yeoman hut which is located at the banks of river Mubuku, have dinner and spend the night.

Day 11: Descend to Guy Yeoman Hut and descend to Nyakalengija

Traverse the ridges and passes as you embark on descent through changing vegetation zones till you reach the base at Nyakalenginja for a period of 6 hours where you leave from to your lode for dinner and overnight. Equator Snow Lodge.

Have breakfast at Guy Yeoman hut then descend back to Nyakalengija which is about 6 hours. The Safari Guide will be ready to pick you up from Nyakalengija

Day 12: Return to Kampala / Entebbe

Breakfast in the morning then embark on transfer to the Kampala or the Entebbe International Airport to board your flight back home.
