Getting to Rwenzori Mountains National Park

Getting to the Park includes transferring using both Road and Air transport which are chosen by the travelers on hiking safari in Uganda.

By Road

Rwenzori Mountains National Park can be accessed by use of Road as travelers transfer from Kampala to the South West in Kasese District. You travel for a distance of 370–400 kms for a period of 6 to 8 hours depending on the traffic and road conditions.

Main Road Routes

Kampala – Fort Portal – Kasese. It is the most preferred route due to the fact that it is scenic and preferred by many travelers passing through Mubende and the lush countryside. It offers views of tea plantations and crater lakes near Fort Portal. Continues to Kasese till you reach Nyakalengija Base Camp.

Kampala – Mbarara – Kasese

This is quite a longer route passing via Queen Elizabeth National Park and suitable for travelers including wildlife safari with mountain trekking. It proceeds till Kasese where you leave from to the Nyakalengija Base Camp where the Central Circuit and Kilembe Trekking Routes begin.

By Air

Rwenzori Mountains National Park can be accessed using Air Transport as travelers catch domestic flights from the Entebbe International Airport or Kajjansi Airstrip to the Kasese Airstrip where they are met by the driver guide to transfer them to the Nyakalengija Base Camp. The flights take a period of 1 to 1.5 hours.
